Bara Imambara

This is one of the largest buildings in Lucknow. It is an Urdu word in which the word ‘bara’ means big and ‘imambara’ means the shrine complex. This place is also famous as Asfi imambara, after the name of the nawab who constructed it.

It is an important place for Muslims as they visit here every year to celebrate their religious festival called ‘ Muharram’ 

This is especially famous for its incredible maze known as bhul bhulaiya locally, which is on the upper floor of the monument. It also comprises a stepwell with running water ( Shahi Baoli ).

The Bara Imambara is one of the historical and most famous monuments of the city.

British Residency

British Residency is titled as a National monument. The fort was earlier a refuge camp for several Britishers and is now in ruins and the cemetery nearby contains the graves of the hundreds of Britishers who died during the battle.

The ruins are now under the archaeological survey of India.

The place is also famous as Residency and the Residency complex. The site was the residence of the British resident general which has stormed during the battle.

Rumi Darwaza

This is a grand gateway located in the middle of the city. This gateway was built by Nawab Asaf – ud – Daula in 1784. This is an imposing gateway located between Bara Imambara and Chota Imambara.

It was built with no visible supporting fittings. It is also famous as the TurkGategate and displays the Awadhi architectural style.

Hazratganj Market

The place is spread across an area of 107 acres of land, and this modern architectural monument is dedicated to Dr B.R. Ambedkar. The entire monument is built with red sandstone which was transported from the areas of Rajasthan.

The park is located in Gomti Nagar which is one of the posh localities of Lucknow. The eye attractions of this place include the Ambedkar Stupa, pratibimb Sthal with statues of 62 elephants, the museum etc.
