How is Amla Murabba Made?
Amla Murabba may be served warm or cold. We like it best when served chilled. The recipe is also very versatile, and you can change up the fruit depending on what is available, but note that you will need to keep some of the ingredients on hand, especially the sugar (which can be substituted with honey or maple sugar).
Ingredients: 1 cup amla (Indian gooseberries), peeled and dried 1 cup sugar 3 tablespoons lemon juice 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder 1 teaspoon rose water Nutmeg for dusting
Method: 1. Wash the amla and let it drain in a colander for half an hour. 2. Heat butter in a pan. Add white sugar and bring to a boil. 3. Add the amla, cover and cook in low heat for 10 minutes. 4. Take off the heat and cool slightly. 5. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. 6. Refrigerate for 2 hours before serving, or serve immediately if preferred.
Add a few gratings of fresh nutmeg to each portion just before serving.
The peeled, dried fruit will keep for a long time in a tightly-sealed container in the refrigerator.
